Advanced Telon Online Programming
FOR: Students having a good knowledge of Telon, who wish to become the center of Telon expertise on their project.
DESCRIPTION: This course, a mixture of lectures and hands-on exercises, covers everything a programmer needs to know to set up and manage the Telon aspects of a project. A trainer will spend a week at your site. The first day (after (s)he arrives) will be spent making sure everything is ready for the class: he will verify that class logins are set up, appropriate files are created for those logins, etc. The remaining time will be spent with a balance of formal instruction and labs. Any time left over on the last day will allow unfinished material to be completed and any specific areas of interest not covered in the introduction course to be covered. This course can be taught for VSAM, IMS/DB, DB2 etc., and for either CICS or IMS/DC.
OBJECTIVES: At the end of this course, the programmer will be able to create and maintain an environment in which less experienced Telon programmers can be successful. The exercises in the class aso produce programs which should be very useful in the production environment, but may not have been written in the past because they were not considered feasible.
PREREQUISITES: The student should already be someone who others come to for advice and information about Telon. This course, together with the data administration course and the systems programming course, qualify the student for the role of Telon Coordinator as described in Chapter 1 of the CA-Telon Implementation Guide. Clients can choose to create a customised course by combining elements of all three courses. The labs for this class assume that the TDF still contains the exercises from the online introduction class.
SUBJECTS covered:
Each of these subjects includes a lecture and a lab. Since labs for more advanced subjects tend to take more time, some labs exercise more than one of the subjects. Thus clients choosing to combine portions of the three advanced classes into one must expect that the total learning in the four days of class will be slightly reduced, or that the students will have to work late some of the days.
