INTRODUCTION TO TELON ONLINE (CICS or IMS/DC)
FOR: Students having no knowledge of Telon, or students who have become frustrated by being asked to work with Telon without a good understanding. There is a pre-class exercise to bring the first group up to speed with the second.
DESCRIPTION: This course, a mixture of lectures and hands-on exercises, covers everything a programmer needs to know to write 95% of online Telon programs as part of an existing Telon project. A trainer will spend a five day week at your site. Monday will be spent making sure everything is ready for the class: he will verify that class logins are set up, appropriate files are created for those logins, any pre-class assignment problems resolved, etc. Tuesday through Thursday and part of Friday will be spent with a balance of formal instruction and labs. Any time left over on Friday will allow unfinished material to be completed and any specific areas of interest not covered in the introduction course to be covered. Also the instructor will be available to answer Telon questions by other company employees when the Intro class members' needs are satisfied. This course can be taught for VSAM, IMS/DB, DB2 etc.
OBJECTIVES: At the end of this course, the programmer will be able to use the TDF and the Telon generator to produce a simple or medium online program with minimal support. The Transaction Manager and DBMSs not chosen for the course will not be a significant obstacle to those students needing to use them, since Telon handles different environments with almost identical structures.
PREREQUISITES: Knowledge of the chosen computer platform for the class and COBOL and ISPF. Prior knowledge of the Transaction manager and DBMS are NOT required, since Telon handles them.
