Telon Data Administration
FOR: DBA's whose responsibilities include Telon projects, others who work with Telon Data Administration, and graduates of the advanced programming course who wish to become Telon Coordinators.
DESCRIPTION: This course, a mixture of lectures and hands-on exercises, covers everything a DBA needs to know to manage the Telon Data Administration aspects of a project. A trainer will spend four days at your site. The first day will be spent making sure everything is ready for the class: he will verify that class logins are set up, appropriate files are created for those logins, etc. The remaining time will be spent with a balance of formal instruction and labs. Any time left over on the last day will allow unfinished material to be completed and any specific areas of interest not covered in the introduction course to be covered. This course can be taught for VSAM, IMS/DB, DB2 etc., and for either CICS or IMS/DC. There is almost no difference between the CICS and IMS/DC material, but the differences between different DBMSs is substantial. It is data administration which absorbs the differences between DBMSs, presenting a common API to the applications programmer.
OBJECTIVES: At the end of this course, the student will be able to create and maintain a Telon Data Administration environment in which Telon programmers can be highly productive, while shop standards are naturally followed as the path of least resistance.
PREREQUISITES: The application programmer must already be someone who others come to for advice and information about Telon. The DBA must have already done the pre-class assignment for either the batch or online class. This course, together with the advanced programming course and the systems programming course, qualify the student for the role of Telon Coordinator as described in Chapter 1 of the CA-Telon Implementation Guide. Clients often choose to create a customised course by combining elements of all three courses.
SUBJECTS covered: Importing database information into Telon, adding to this information for standardization and productivity, datagroups and PSBs. Each of these subjects includes a lecture and a lab, and is covered in a day.
