Upgrading Telon to a new Release

Many Telon installations have been around for a long time, and central support has often come and gone.  This can result in different groups using different releases of Telon, and using different procedures for change control, etc.

With IBM pressuring everyone to upgrade, suddenly all releases of Telon prior to 4.0 are liabilities. Several unpleasant choices loom:

• Do a quick-and-dirty upgrade of each group leaving each using their old change control procedures etc.
• Use the opportunity of the new release to standardize procedures
• Eliminate Telon and maintain the COBOL

Before you can decide this, you should decide:

• Do we have the expertise in-house to decide this entirely by ourselves?
• Should we ask CA for advice?  Will they ever advise dumping Telon?
• Should we get independent advice?

If you have customized the Telon macros at all, this will also need to be upgraded.
