This site is just beginning construction.
amazon.com inspired me to build this. I noticed that the ‘amateur’ reviews there were more interesting to me than the ‘professional’ reviews in newspapers etc. Wondering why, I finally decided that when I found an interesting review of a book I was interested in, I could look at other reviews by the same person. Often I would find a review of a book I had already read, which gave me an extra opportunity to judge the reviewer. A greater delight was the fact that the same person would often review a wide variety books, giving me a 3dimensional insight into him (or her). Professional book reviews are, I suppose, written by experts in the subject, so one reviewer is restricted to one kind of book, and is also motivated to use the review to demonstrate his expertise.
I decided that I would place a collection of essays here in the hope of achieving something similar. Like a blog, the bottom of this page contains links to my most recent essays. I also hope to take full advantage of the potential of hypertext, by linking these essays to each other and to resources on the web which have interested me. I hope in due course the web of essays will become a coherent summary of my thoughts on a wide variety of subjects, few of which I have any formal qualifications to opine about.
Before the blog at the bottom of this page is a series of links to the major subjects I intend to write about.
I hope you enjoy reading these essays as much as I enjoyed sorting out my ideas and writing them down.
Nothing else about me makes much sense until you know I have asperger syndrome.
My main interest in life is the set of subjects often called STEM, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
