Prerequisites:
Students need to have the degree of familiarity with COBOL (or PLI) which is normally acquired after two years as a programmer. No prior experience of CICS, IMS/DC, or any DBMS is required.
During the last two years we have noticed a change in our audience. An increasing number of students attending this course have been maintaining Telon applications for some months before the course has been approved for them. Some team leaders who have been given responsibility for a Telon application have realized they need to understand what Telon is. The course has therefore been adjusted to meet these needs better while still catering primarily to complete novices. For those occasions when the student body is expected to include this diversity, the first hands-on exercise has been designed as a pre-class assignment for the least experienced, so they can move through the rest of the material without holding others back.
